How To Find Your Design Style

What is your design style? This is typically one of the first questions we ask clients in our initial consultation to help us establish the design direction of the project and often clients feel unsure on how to answer. Determining your own design style can be overwhelming! Whether your browsing beautiful images in magazines or online, there are so many different interior design styles to choose from to create a space that reflects your own personal taste and style. And each style has its own distinctive furniture, décor, lighting, and accessories that give it that signature look. Many, if not most people will find they prefer a combination of several different styles so becoming familiar with some of the most popular styles will help you better understand what styles you lean towards. So, let’s get started and help you discover your own!

There are many popular interior design styles, ranging from modern to traditional, rustic to coastal. Here are some of the most popular interior design styles:

Modern: This style features clean lines, minimalist design, natural materials, a monochromatic color palette and natural light.

Rustic: This style features natural materials, such as wood and stone, with warm, earthy tones and vintage or handcrafted elements.

Transitional: This style is a mixture of both the traditional and modern styles featuring pieces from both design styles blended to create an update to classics with a cohesive, modern feel with ornate details that are toned down for a more modern effect.

Art Deco: This style features geometric patterns, bold colors, and luxury materials like brass and velvet, evoking the glamour of the 1920s and 1930s.

Modern Farmhouse: This style combines rustic elements like shiplap walls and barn doors with modern touches like sleek lighting fixtures and contemporary furniture.
