I begin with the land itself, whether it’s the sunlit slopes of Cedar Ravine or the shaded canyons near Broadway, selecting materials that reflect the Sierra’s natural palette. Warm hardwoods, locally sourced river stone, and earthy tones create a harmonious connection to the surroundings. Texture plays a crucial role, with handcrafted plaster walls, exposed wooden beams, and a mix of smooth and rugged surfaces adding depth. I also prioritize transitional spaces, like mudrooms for outdoor gear or sunrooms that dissolve the boundary between home and nature. Every detail, from custom joinery inspired by Gold Rush-era craftsmanship to lighting that mimics the dappled sunlight filtering through oak trees, is intentional. The result is a home that feels distinctly Placerville, not just a mountain retreat, but a space that embodies the spirit of this foothill community.
